101 Favorite Foods

To continue, one more day, in the milestone spirit, I am keeping my promise for my biggest top ten list ever – my 101 favorite foods!

Just to keep the few rules clear, “foods” means “ingredients” and not “dishes,” although some ingredients can be the same or very close to a dish (like a hot dog). Perhaps I'll rank my top dishes at some future point, but for today you'll be marching through my palette and preferences with my favorite foods. Think, if I was offered a plate of any food as my last meal before going to Mars to eat sloppy Joe's on Wonderbread for the rest of my life, that I would want these to definitely be considered first for inclusion. Also, assume that I am ranking the best quality version of these items. If I say sharp cheddar cheese, I do not mean shredded Kraft cheese (or I would say so); I mean a high-quality Vermont cheddar. So enjoy – and feel free to post your own top 10 (or more) in a comment. I'd love to compare tastes! Also, comment and let me know if you're wondering why something is where it is or why something is missing. Enjoy!

This is quite an impressive list. It is certainly hard to narrow foods down to a top 10 -- considering how much our family enjoys and appreciates food. But, here it is:

Dad's Top 10 Foods

1. Brie
2. Avocado
3. Red Wine (a good bottle, of course)
4. Fresh Peaches (prefer Michigan Red Haven or South Carolina)
5. Scallops
6. Lobster
7. Olives (just about any kind)
8. Mushrooms (any kind)
9. Cinnamon
10. Ice Cream (maybe this is cheating, since there are many ingredients in ice cream; I guess it is actually a dish, but who cares.)
